We are all Learners - the learner’s mind

If you are a small fish

You may be thought of as an 'individual contributor', a 'member of the staff', 'on the crew'. Perhaps you have some first-line management or supervisory experience.

Likely, you are in your 20s, but maybe you are in your 60s. You could be any adult age.

You may have feedback that you have some leadership capability, likely that means some likability, quick wit, motivation. You may have no such feedback. You may feel invisible. You may feel unliked.  All of these can be true at the same time.

You may be one of the 'golden children', often people of privilege, talent, or early achievement who have been brought in to prime the pipeline of future executives.

What do you do about leadership?

If you are a big fish

You have had some significant experience and responsibility, you are mid-to-late-career. You may have tenure.

Borrowing from Marshal Goldsmith's simple wisdom, Whatever you have done to get this point, will not get you to the next level or through the next challenge.

Given your motivation, you are also not likely someone who wants to fail or to repeat the same thing you've done before. Achievement matters to you.

It may also be that you have stayed on the sidelines, stayed political, rode the tide up to a good position. What next?

What do you do about leadership?
